Six Things Must Consider When Choosing a Gym

GymWhen you want to try a new restaurant, you might read a good review, ask your friends for recommendations or even you check out menu before spending your money & time there. If you like their food, you will return there again & again but if you don’t like their food then your first visit can be your last. In the same way, finding the right gym is same as finding a new restaurant. I spent so much time to find a right gym to me in the city Galway, right before the gym membership. A gym must be like that will motivate you to come there back daily must fit your personality. It is a big financial commitment so must research the options before signing a membership card. While selecting a particular gym, gather all the questions that come in your mind & answers should be such that it satisfies you. There are many things that must consider in the gym other than a workout. In this article, we have made a list of six things that you should consider while signing a long term contract with a particular gym.

  1. Money: Cost you are going to pay is obviously going to be an important factor for most of the people. There are many people out there who can’t pay the high priced memberships & personal training fees that some main elite gyms offer. If you are smart about it, you can often find ways to lower the cost such as discount seasons, avoiding extras or long term agreements. You must consider the season when you are buying the membership. Most of the gyms offer discounted rates during off season so that can be the time for you to grab the chance. Secondly avoid things that you don’t need in the gym, this will surely reduce your cost for memberships. Select the things you need in the gym. Third, you must avoid long term agreements like 1-3 years because if you find yourself unhappy with the facilities provided by the gym, you will find yourself locked in & will be paying regardless whether you go or not.
  1. Members: To people around them, everyone responds differently. This is another important thing you must keep in your mind while selecting a gym. In the gym during your exercise movement, you should feel relaxed not disconnected or ashamed. We can see some gyms are co-ed, while some are same-sex only. Others attract individuals of certain age-groups. So you must be comfortable while exercising around the current members. Also during your workout timings, you should also take care about gym should not be overly crowded.

  1. Equipment: While selecting a gym, take a good look around at the equipment’s. See are there enough of the popular machines to go around or do there is a wait in line for members to use them. Find out if there is a sign-up sheet or time limit on cardio equipment. For example if you run on a treadmill for an hour, then a 20 or 30 minute time limit won’t suit you. A wide variety of machines should be available in the gym such as dumbbells, stretching areas & cardio machines weight machines but don’t be intimidated by new ones. Take a look whether or not there is instructions & pictures posted on the machines or there is enough staff to help you. Be aware of out-of-order machines, this might be an indication of a poorly maintained gym.

  1. Cleanliness: During your first trip to gym, you should keep your eyes peeled & see whether the gym is providing a clean surroundings or not. There should be towels to wipe off the equipment after each use. Also, look to see if staff members enforce this standard of hygiene or not. If you are using the locker rooms & showers very often, you must check out about the cleanliness of the locker room. Look at the toilets, sinks & showers themselves to see that they are properly maintained or not.
  1. Hours of Operation: We know everyone has a different preference for when they like to work out. There are people who are early morning people where there are other people that wait until gym gets empty & go late into the night. You should look for a gym that remains open for 24 hours. Also depending on your dedication to working out, you may want to look for a place that remains open for most of the year. Due to their busy schedule, some people use holidays as a time to work out, seeing how they have the day off of work & finally have a chance to spend a good amount of time on the gym, so selecting a gym that remains open can become most beneficial to you.
  1. Extra Features: Some best gyms in the market also offer added features such as daycare, physical therapy or massage & juice bar to their members usually at a cost. If you have a young child for whom you have a hard time finding a babysitter for, then this could be a very strong factor while selecting a gym in your decision. You must surely enquire whether the costs of daycare will be included in the membership or you will be charged extra for it. The juice or snack bar is a good option to have a post-workout meal but you must aware about that they are offering healthy selection or not. Some gyms also have qualified nutritionists working on board, so you can also make use of them for preparing a proper diet program for you.

Conclusion: So before you go off & sign a contract at the gym, you walk into, shop around a bit, ask some questions & even ask about what kind of trial memberships are available. It is obvious that you will get a one week free pass to try out a gym before making any commitments. It can be a perfect chance for you to whether a particular gym meets your requirement or not. If there is lack of some features, you can try out another gym that offers the features you want. After enough looking, select the gym that suits your needs.
